Halloween with Willa

Willa was dressed for the holiday...

and loved making noises, spitting and blowing bubbles this morning...

and smiling and talking....

exercising her tongue...

She was a great traveler this weekend; 6 hours in the car seat on Saturday and about 5 hours today. She was as happy to be home as was everyone else. Great weekend with family!

Halloween Tidbits

Did you know...?

Halloween seems to have its roots in ancient Celtic culture. The Celts were a group of people that lived in what is now Ireland several thousand years ago. They were farmers, and their original Halloween festivals were a celebration of summer harvest and a preparation for the difficult, cold winter ahead.
Trick or Treating is thought to have begun during All Souls' Day celebrations several hundred years ago in England. This holiday honored the lives of those who had died. The poor would go from house to house offering to pray for the dead in exchange for money or 'soul cakes', a type of hot cross bun.
Hundreds of years ago in Scotland and Ireland, children would carve  Jack-O-Lanterns from turnips. Turnips were the major food crop in the region. The children would hollow out the vegetables, carve faces and place a candle inside. Years later when Europeans migrated to the United States, they discovered the abundance of pumpkins, and the present day Jack-O-Lanterns were born.

In the USA, more candy is sold around Halloween than at any other time. Candy sales in October outnumber Easter, Christmas, and Valentine's Day sales of candy.
Halloween comes in third behind Christmas and New Year's Eve in the number of parties hosted.
More funny greeting cards are sold for Halloween than any other holiday. Twenty-five million cards are sold annually.

Happy Halloween

Friday Evening with Willa

It has been two weeks since we have seen her and Oh, My, the changes!!! She now sits in her bouncy chair, and holds her bottle, and reaches out her hands when we reach out to her. This was some of the pictures from our time together tonight.

Willa is 6 months old this week.

Another Road Trip Along Hwy. 7 in MN

Last weekend was another road trip along Hwy. 7 in Minnesota. It truly looked like fall. Many of the trees were bare or colorless, most of the crops were harvested, but the temperatures were well above average for October. One more of these road trips this weekend and then we head south.

This may look like a grain bin with windows, but it
really is an office building for a construction company.

Some Halloween yard decorations in Hutchinson.

A wee bit of color still on the trees

Piles of harvested sugar beets

Other Hart Ranch Scenes

Hart Ranch is a members only camping resort
in the Black Hills of SD

Here are some of the pictures from our
trip last week

This is our corner to turn at the bottom of the hill along Hwy. 79.
The resort is nestled in a valley surrounded by prairie covered hills.

That sea of white is the RV storage area of Hart Ranch

Many people take advantage of the storage area.

Pasture land borders the resort to the north. This cow
just got done using the fence post to scratch his/her neck.

We often see deer in the pasture, or along the road.
On this trip we even saw them in the resort.

Wild turkeys were in the pasture as we left the resort
on Monday morning.

End of Summer at Hart Ranch

The flowers show the end of the summer
camping season at Hart Ranch.
They were along the front of the lodge,
where we stayed last weekend.

I hope you enjoyed them as much as I did.
Good-bye to summer...
