A Peek at the New Place

The first time we stopped at the new house (July 13th) after signing papers, leaving a check and choosing the colors and accessories, I did NOT bring the camera to take pictures during our "It's Ours!" walk-through. However, I did remember to bring it on July 20th. I thought I'd share our new home. This is how it looked on July 13th. Also, this is how it looks this week. All rooms on the main floor were framed, sheet rocked and textured.

on July 13th, the basement was one large open space
except for this storage, utility room

We made another trip on July 20th to choose the kitchen back splash and checked on the house.

during the week, the basement was being framed

bedroom, bathroom, bedroom on the other side of the wall

We checked the house every trip or usually once a week since then, hoping to see something happening. On August 2nd the sheetrock for the basement walls had been delivered and the shower/tub had been installed in the bathroom.

Between August 2nd and August 17th, the sheet rock was put in place, the walls and ceilings in the basement were textured and then nothing until last week.

the doors, woodwork and cabinets were delivered to the garage

And then when we stopped on August 28th to show the home to some friends...

bathroom counter tops
and all the paint, hardware, light fixtures, etc.

It was fun to see all the stuff in the garage as I did not remember all the colors I had selected.

I expect (because all the windows and bathtubs are covered in plastic) the house will be primed and painted sometime soon. We did see the roll of flooring for the bathrooms and laundry. The carpet has not arrived nor has the kitchen/dining room flooring. It is getting very exciting to see the stored things in the garage. Hopefully, some of it will make it into the house soon! That will also mean our trips to check on things will be curtailed as it nears completion.

Home for the Next Two Months

It has been two weeks since we moved into our 25' travel trailer from our home of 41 years. It has been a week and a half since we moved into our space at the campground in Sioux Falls. This is home for the next two months.

a picnic table, enough space for the rug and a couple of chairs
and all the amenities to make it a comfortable stay

We feel we have recovered from moving boxes. We are settled in the camper. We know the necessary stores in the area. I have weekly coffee with a friend. I have found a library book club. We are back to geocaching. Life is good.

River Fest

We are not newbies to our new home city; we have been coming here for years long before our son  and his wife moved to Sioux Falls. Once grandchildren came along, the 100 mile trips were more frequent. One of the exciting pieces of moving to a new city is participating in the opportunities, especially free ones, to learn about and appreciate our new city of residence. The kids invited us to join them last Saturday at River Fest, a free event along the river in downtown Sioux Falls.

Back to School Night

We joined the G'kids and their parents at Open House tonight at their school. We went last year also because we happened to be in town helping with day care. This year we happen to LIVE nearby so met them at school to share the excitement of Back to School.

The Movers

We were expecting the Movers before noon today. They had to unload the truck and move somethings to a town between Sioux Falls and Watertown. They showed up around 3:00. We had furniture in 6 rooms that needed to be loaded in the panel truck.

They got right to work. They knew what they were doing.

I can not count the number of times the garage has been loaded with boxes and containers which disappear only to be filled again. Hubby made three trips to the storage units in 3 days. 100 miles one way. Forty-one years in the same house, 48 years of combined stuff. Way too much of the stuff!

The basement family room is empty! The biggest challenge in that room was a sleeper sofa. They got it up and out! (They will also be bringing it in and down in a couple of months!) They told me they were looking forward to see our furniture again! At least they had a sense of humor!

Basement bedroom is empty. Two more bedrooms upstairs and an office lined with Ikea book shelves and cabinets!

Three Men and a Truck. Three YOUNG men who knew their job.

They pulled out of the driveway before 5:00 PM. for the 100 mile drive and to unload the truck yet tonight. As I said: Three YOUNG men! I am pooped and my body is aching. Cleaning and finish packing tomorrow. Closing on Friday. Then the easy life for a couple of months!

The Last Night

Nearly 41 years to the month, this has been our home. Tonight will be the last night we sleep in this house. Neither of us are overly sad about leaving this house that became our home. Part of that is because there is still 'stuff to do' before all is final on Friday. Part of it, and maybe a bigger part, is the excitement of our new home...still 2 months away.

lots of good memories

finally cleaned the weeds of the smaller flower bed
without the decor, it looks bare
I took my favorite rocks

all the metal decor is off the fence
the gazing balls, solar lights & bird baths are gone
OFS & OFDIL took the rest of the rocks

the SOLD sign appeared last week
THAT made it more official
movers come Wednesday
clean house on Thursday
sign papers on Friday

and then a new adventure begins...
