Signs of Fall Along Highway 7

It was a road trip this weekend along Highway 7 to Minneapolis. Signs of fall were abundant. Enjoy...

Sumac turning red

Field of pumpkins

Trees changing colors and green, green lawns

Ditch grass & hay in bales

Drying soybeans

Ripening corn fields

Lots of rich and vibrant colors this time of year which is
just one of the reasons I love autumn!

More Willa Pics

Willa was dressed in one of the cutest outfits on Sunday afternoon. It even had matching purple with white dotted socks! There were ruffles on the butt. So dang cute!

Momma put her in her swing as everyone was busy.

It wasn't long before the ol' eyelids were dropping and she entered the 'glazed over' look. Is that a tired look or what?

Miles, the giraffe, was used to prop her head, sort of!

Playing with Willa on Saturday

Willa spent some time on Saturday morning in the Baby Einstein. She was busy talking and playing. Here are some of the 60 photos from Saturday:

Rocco had to check things out before he was satisfied that it was an OK place for her to be.

She laughs so easily when she is happy; been fed, dry diaper, no need for a nap...yet.

I love her intent look when she is concentrating. And the almost constant drool...

She enjoys the sounds objects make as much as she enjoys manipulating objects.

We had a fun Saturday morning, didn't we, Willa? We get to do it again next week. YIPPEE!

Sunday Morning Fun with Willa

After a night and morning of a bothersome tummy ache, Willa was finally herself and willing to play with Grandma.

The smile was so much better than the hard crying we heard at 1:30 AM and again at 7:00 AM.

We think the culprit was Brussel sprouts, which mommy and I had for supper Saturday night. We thought they were delicious. But Willa didn't.

It was a distraught morning for her parents and her grandparents, especially Grandpa.

So it was so fun to play with her while everyone else had work to do.

But after about 30 minutes, it was nap time.

What a fun time with a special little girl!

Saturday with Willa & Rocco

Somebody was jealous of all the time Grandma was spending with Willa this morning.

Rocco brought his rubber chicken and laid it down, hoping I would play with him.

When I didn't play right away, he picked up the chicken and put it next to Willa, making sure I would notice.

He knows I prefer the chicken to some of his other toys.

So grandma played fetch with Rocco and peek-a-boo with Willa. Those pictures will be later.

Willa and the 'Just Because' Dress

When Willa got home from the hospital, I finally went shopping for little girl clothes. I had decided I would be very practical. I had secretly been laughing at my friends who shared all they bought when they went grandchild shopping. Not me, I said to myself, four months ago. I bought three things the first shopping trip: something practical for right then, something cute for a month or two ahead, and something 'just because'. Willa has long out grown the somethings practical and cute, but she is able to now wear the 'just because'.

This is Willa's reaction to grandma's purchase:

As long as she was able to chew on her bib, she was okay, but then...

the bib was pulled down so we could see her face and get a picture of her...

in Grandma's 'just because' dress...

which is stiff and slippery and poofy. You can see the mouth forming...

and the lip trembling. The dress wasn't removed right away, so Willa decided to take matters in her own hands. She threw up all over the dress. It was removed and Willa went to church in her comfortable, white, cotton onsie. So much for Grandma's 'just because' little girl dress!

Visitors from the Past

A couple of months ago I got a letter from Jane asking if she and her brother could see our house as they had lived in it from 1957 to 1960. Jane, her younger brother Doug, and their spouses would be traveling through Watertown on their way to Yellowstone. If we would approve and be around, they would like to see the inside of the house. This morning they stopped to visit and reminisce. They also brought photos.

College Football

College football has begun, so it must be the end of summer. We traveled to Minneapolis this weekend to watch the Gophers play the University of South Dakota Coyotes.

A Navy Seal jump team delivered the flags to the stadium.

If the Gopher defense was on, the offense was out to lunch
that quarter...and if the offense showed up and did their jobs,
the defense took their lunch break.

Goldie was passed along the student section
early in the game.

Our beloved Gophers were defeated by the Coyotes.
A very disappointing, but beautiful day of football.
