Geocaching Summary Thus Far

Covid and geocaching are the reasons for our meandering trip to our winter home. For folks not familiar with geocaching, the most common question we are asked, "What do you get?" Hubby loves to say, "Gas receipts."

This post is a summary of what we have accomplished so far in our journey. Our personal goal is to collect counties on this trip. Once we have found at least one geocache in a county, it becomes green on the state map. There are 'bonus' geocaches we qualify for when we have cached in every county in a state, as we have in Arizona and South Dakota. There are also bonus geocaches if geocaches have been found in contiguous counties from border to border or ocean to ocean.

This summer a geocacher from Illinois passed through South Dakota and found some of our geocaches, adding to his county total. There are 3142 US counties in case you wondered. This geocacher was collecting his last 10 counties. THAT is a lot of gas receipts!

Hubby is a numbers guy. He keeps track of the number of geocaches we find, the number of miles we travel, the counties we collect.

Oklahoma summary: getting the one "out of the way' county was part of the 450 mile road trip on 10/21.

We are now in Colorado and will be here for rest of the week. Daytime temps have been in the 70s and reached 81ยบ on Tuesday. The evening temperatures are dropping into the 20s. We will be letting the water drip in the two sinks overnight. We have learned our lesson: the gray tank is empty and will hold the overnight dripping without causing any surprises like earlier this week.

As you know from the blog, geocaching takes us to some very interesting places we would not see if not for this sport/hobby/addiction/passion. So we do get more than gas receipts as we travel. The trips to our winter home would be pretty boring after 15 years without geocaching. The hunt continues...
