Lil' Red

My Competition is gone. On January 17, 2013 I wrote a blog post about the addition to our fleet of vehicles. Lil' Red became a permanent fixture at our AZ residence. This week, in fact today, we said good-bye to Lil' Red.  (Click on the blue underlined link to read that January 17, 2013 post.)

When we were out in the desert earlier this month for a weekend of geocaching in no man's land, Lil' Red let us down. We had turned off the jeep to change drivers (manual transmission, she rolls sometimes) and when we tried to restart her, she did not oblige. We tried jumping her with the portal charger we had with us, just in case. No luck. What was our luck was the truck was just 1.2 miles from our location. Hubby walked to the truck and drove it our our stalled location. We tried jumper cables one more time and nothing happened. The battery was is good shape as we had that checked earlier. But we have had trouble with it not starting on several occasions when we were much closer to home and did not have to walk a mile for assistance. We were just fortunate to have the foresight to drive both vehicles on that geocaching adventure.

Using a tow rope, we pulled the jeep and Hubby popped the clutch and Lo and Behold, Lil'Red started. We did not stop or turn it off until we got home and to the auto body shop 85 miles later. The mechanics have spent two weeks trying to find the reason she chooses not to start. She has started EVERY time since we left her at the shop.

Lil' Red is 30 or 31 years old. ('92 model) She has been the perfect geocaching vehicle for our desert adventures. After one month short of 10 years, the time has come to say good-bye. She is not dependable.

One of the mechanics at the auto body shop expressed interest in buying Lil' Red if we ever wanted to sell her when we had her at the shop the first time this winter. Today when Hubby asked if he was still interested knowing all her faults and issues, he opened his billfold and gave Hubby his asking price.

Lil' Red is gone.
