The last weekend in July I sat on the deck and watched the air show take place in the sky over Sioux Falls and on one occasion, right over our house. Not all the planes (especially the historic ones) flew at an altitude for photos. We did not see all the planes that participated.
This was the schedule. (click to get the link)
This is a list of planes with pictures. (click to get the link) For those of you knowing more about aircraft than I.
Saturday was a day of clear blue skies.
the Osprey (???)
US Air Force Heritage flight
The next six photos are from the USAF Thunderbirds. There were six planes. Sometimes two of the planes would perform.
most often 4 Thunderbirds were in formation
later in their show the formation had 5 Thunderbirds
and finally all six were in formation
The contrails were just as interesting as the pilots showed the agility of the planes. It was one of the Thunderbirds that flew over the house. I did not get a photo as by the time I got the camera up and focused, the plane was gone. What a thrill!
The weather was a little different on Sunday. The airshow was canceled about 1:30 because a thunderstorm was moving into our area.
Air National Guard plane (I think)
We had been listening to and watching the South Dakota Air Guard planes most of the week as they practiced their formations.
These two planes are red and white and do not match anything on the pictures of the list of performers. They have propellers. They did not fly as high as the Vipers, Thunderbirds or Air Guard jets. They were the last planes I saw before the air show was canceled.
I hope the air show is back next year!
