Geocaching in the Area

One day last weekend Hubby and I headed out for some geocaching before the week of hot temperatures arrived. There were two specific geocaches on our radar that involved 20' up in a tree. Other geocachers told us they were able to retrieve the containers while standing on the ground, but we were prepared just in case. We ended up parking the truck just right so we had the extra height of the truck box to reach up the 20' with our handy dandy TOTT (tool of the trade). Of course, there are no photos of those geocache retrievals as I was busy watching the action and making certain someone didn't fall! But I did get photos of some of our other geocache stops.

Although Canadian born, Joseph Pattee enlisted at age 26 as a Second Lieutenant in Company B of the 10th Regiment, Pennsylvania Reserve Volunteer Corps. He was elevated to First Lieutenant; and again to Captain at which he finished out his service with the 10th Reserves. He re-enlisted however, and became Lieutenant Colonel of the 191st Pennsylvania Veteran Volunteers. He was later brevetted both Colonel and Brigadier-General for his services during the war. ~ Find A Grave

I had not heard of the rank Brev't. Brigadier General, so I looked it up. Wikipedia says: In many of the world's military establishments, a brevet was a warrant giving a commissioned officer a higher rank title as a reward for gallantry or meritorious conduct but may not confer the authority, precedence, or pay of real rank. An officer so promoted was referred to as being brevetted.
