Geo-Hiking in Scottsdale

Last Saturday we attended a Geocaching Meet & Hike Event in North Scottsdale. We have been in the north part of Scottsdale several times in the last few weeks.

The first trip was with russb80 and betweenhereandthere. It was an all day geocaching trip, leaving the house by 6:30 and arriving back at the house at 9:00. Here are a few photos from that excursion.

It is very unusual to see a clump saguaro.
This one has five arms growing from the very short base.

Interesting that the arms are of differing heights
AND that all the arms appear to be healthy and unmarred.

Ink Blots: What do you see?
I see a dinosaur leaning against a large rock.

Russ told us this area is called 'houses in the boulders'.
I did not have my bigger zoom camera along that day. Sorry.
The houses were designed and built using the natural lay of the boulders.

The houses really blend in with the natural landscape.
The house is on the saddle, to the left of the flag.

See the house just to the top and right of the top of the saguaro?

The purple 'what evers' were the only flower we saw that day.

Our SECOND Trip, last Thursday

Our goal was to collect the 52 caches on the $ Geo-Art.
We did it!
It is about 3 miles from top to bottom and about 2 miles wide.
(The other yellow smileys are other nearby geocaches.)

This was the final cache Ca$h-52...

filled with cash!

The $ was our first completed geo-art.
We have started on several, but this one is a final!

THIRD Trip, Last Saturday

The Meet & Hike Event was held at a park

russb80 found it

The group at the end of the short hike before everyone scattered
to collect the new geocaches placed for the event.
We completed our first 'chirp' geocache that day.
Logged about 25 last Saturday.

I have over 5000 caches and hubby has over 6000.
It has been a great geocaching winter!
