It rained most of last night and again this morning. We waited to leave town until the rain had stopped because we intended to geocache. Although the clouds were hanging around and hanging quite low, we escaped any sprinkles or cloud bursts this afternoon.
a wee bit of sunlight
interesting formations
at the first pull-out in the park
a very popular spot for photos and daredevils
the only sighted wildlife...and it posed for me
there were road signs for endangered tortoises crossing the road,
but we didn't see any
red domed
yesterday, they were white domed
although there has been 3 days of rain,
there was nary a drop of water in the wash
different geology
don't know the bush name, but they were all blooming
as we left the park, a line of 9 or 10 low-to-the-ground
pickups were lined on the opposite side of the road
the young drivers made a U-Turn on the highway and all headed
into Red Rock Canyon for the 13 mile one-way drive
not certain if they were Classic trucks or not
also don't know if they were all the same brand, but I did notice
Chevrolet on the tailgate on one of them
an area of wild horses and burros
we didn't see any
one sign advised motorists not to feed the wild horses or burros
variety of colored sandstone
an educational oasis on the other side of mountain
We did not spend any time in the Visitor's Center at Red Rock Canyon. If I remember right, it is a MUST SEE. We did not have the time to do both, the center and the geocaching. You can guess which one won! I know we will be back to the area some day. We will make the Visitor's Center a must see next time.
We understand why our CV friends enjoyed this area. There are LOTS of hiking trails of various lengths and ability levels. D & D are younger than the two of us and much better hikers. As for the scenery, we think Valley of Fire is more interesting and colorful.
last day in Vegas
Off to a new adventure and another Bucket List item...
