Because Harvest Caye is a private island (Carnival and other cruise lines have developed their own islands), there are no geocaches and no events allowed. We had to develop a Plan B.
We took the ferry to Placencia village (another island???) of Belize, about a 20 minute ride.
There we rented a golf cart so we could get the two geocaches and have lunch at the Tipsy Tuna. I had read where other geocachers had done the golf cart deal and OFD read great reviews about the Tipsy Tuna. Thus our agenda for the day and 3 hour golf cart rental.
very friendly road ways for the cars and golf carts
geocache #1 done
geocache #2 done
and of course, some flora to add to the collection
Things we saw while driving the golf cart on the main road in Placencia Village...
we didn't
lots of little market stores
and all the necessary public services
including a cemetery
without a geocache!
our lunch destination
lots of cute signage along the boardwalk to the beach side
business
star fruit decorated our adult beverages
the establishment did not have any electricity for some unknown reason,
so our lunch selections were limited, but still yummy
we enjoyed our time along the beach watching people
our cruise ship ported at Harvest Caye
many little sail boats in the harbor at Placencia Village
We did a little shopping before returning to the Norwegian Cruise Line owned island and their shopping area where we left a few more $$ and enjoyed some fish tacos and drinks at the Landshark. Another great day of sunshine, blue sky and blue water. One more port of call and then it will be back to reality...
Loved the way you explored on your own. Where there is a will, there is a way!
ReplyDeleteFor future reference, Carnival / Holland America's private island features 7 caches including an earth cache. Don't ask me how they got away with it, but... of course we logged them!
