Trolley Ride in Waikiki

OFD wanted to see and compare Honolulu's China Town to other China Towns she has visited in New York City and San Francisco, to name two. Hubby and I had some historical places we wanted to stop for geocaching. The trolley seemed like the most practical way to meet our goals.

ready for a ride and a WALK

homeless camp on the grounds of the capitol

We have not seen many homeless in the Waikiki area where the tourists hang out, but did see more of them in the downtown area. One of our Uber drivers shared the homeless get a meal card allowing them to get a free meal at restaurants every day plus government assistance.

a rather deserted and disappointing China Town

but a tasty fun lunch at Manifesto

We headed in the other direction to look for a statue of Confucius and THAT is where we found China Town.

Not Confucius, but a statue

a courtyard with all kinds of shops and markets
OFD's goal completed

Queen of Hawaii 1891-1917

she is given a fresh lei every day
her statue is on the backside of the state capitol building
and between the state government and the 'Iolani Palace

Mehameha I
Now our geocaching goal was complete. That makes for a successful day.

Our trolley ride took us through Murals of Kaka'ako. This one of a jail cell looked so realistic. It is a mural and just one of many our driver pointed out to us.

This hi-rise caught my eye with its yellow bump-outs (balconies ?). Just so very different.

And it wouldn't be a day in paradise without a stop at the Pineapple House for s smoothie. Just fruit and ice and oh, so refreshing on a warm day in Waikiki.
