On the third day of the cruise, our ship docked in the port of Cagliari on the Italian island of Sardinia.
The first item on our agenda in a new country is to find a geocache. The nearest one from the dock was at the train station which was on the way to the center of town. The three of us had our phones in hand walking around in the station, feeling along the edges of metal objects on the walls. There were very few people in the station.
Two policemen waved us towards the locomotive on display in the station. One of them began feeling around under the metal posts supporting the chain surrounding the display. In fact, he felt under most of them, but did not find it. We knew it had been found only a day or two prior to our visit.
Since we seemed to have their permission to continue the search, we did until I reached into the correct post and the perfect little nook to find a magnetized container. We signed the log and showed them where I had found it. One of them spoke a little English, so Hubby showed him the geo map of the city and the number of geocaches available. That was our welcome to Italy!
Country #2 for geocaching on this cruise
colorful buildings in the center of town
the soccer team of Sardinia
shops and restaurants along the plaza
A couple sitting at the next table recommended the slow cooked beef brisket on mashed potatoes. It tasted just like what her mother used to make. So I ordered it. It was tasty, but twice the amount of food I could eat.
