Decorated Bra Showcase for Cancer Week

Many of you know I coordinate activities for a cancer week at our winter resort. This is the fourth year for the project and each year we try to 'do it bigger and better'. The past three years CV has donated more than $40,000 to the American Cancer Society to help support those with breast cancer and help fund research of breast cancer.

This year our focus is on all cancers. We added a health fair, health screening, and a decorated bra showcase. The health fair needs some adjustment, but the other two events were successful today.

I am reluctant to go forward with something unless I have a clear picture of what I want or know what to expect. This fall I saw decorated bras showcased in a small, nearby SD community. In November in another resort I saw a decorated bra display to raise funds for the Susan G. Komen for a Cure Program. Those two events gave me the courage to try it at our resort.

We just weren't sure what to expect. Would people create something for the display? Would they pay $2.00 to see it? Would they like what they saw?

There were 31 entries in the showcase. The committee did a wonderful job of decorating and displaying the creative artwork of the resort's residents. Here are some of the entries.

People paid $2.00 to enter the 'room' and vote for their favorite creation. Or people could pay $5.00 and get three votes. The showcase netted $680 for ACS. The winning entries will be announced on Saturday at the luncheon after the walk. I will post the winners and their 'prizes' then.

  2. Like you, I wasn't sure what to expect...but this was clever, fresh, original, artitstic and just plain fun! Great idea to add a new twist to an annual event! Loved participating. Loved attending the show. Loved that we raised an additional $660.00 from it! Decorators did a wonderful job too! Debra
