Saguaros near Quartzsite

Hubby and I ventured to Quartzsite over the weekend for our January geocaching weekend. We stayed in Blythe CA, about 20 miles west of Quartzsite. If you've ever been to the metropolis of Quartzsite, you know why we stayed in Blythe. We actually did not spend a lot of time in either community as our destination was the desert.

We stopped for a cache and as I was about to get out of the jeep,
the moon in the afternoon sky, framed by the tree,
was too perfect not to capture.

Not sure this can be explained other than,
an anomaly.

It did have 'normal' arms.

In this area, we noticed several saguaros
with arms growing from the base,
rather than higher on the trunk,
as in the central part of the state.

And this stop's destination...
a crested saguaro.

A rather weathered, worn crest or fan.

But it does have baby arms growing
out of the crested area.

Two stately specimens
