Another Rodeo

Hubby and I spent last week in the Black Hills with the G'Kids...their first trip as tourists with nearly free rein at the kid-friendly sights and gift shops. Our thought in taking on this adventure was to share  the places their daddy and aunt enjoyed as kids on their many summer visits back in the 80's. Since we weren't certain how the adventure would turn out (weather, kids' interests, our tolerance level, etc.) we did all the biggies on this trip.

Hart Ranch Camping Resort, our home base for the week, hosts a rodeo every Wednesday July-August. The price is right. The location is ideal. The clown is Hubby's relative. Three good reasons to introduce the G'Kids to rodeoing.

The evening's events started with Mutton Bustin'...kids riding sheep, or at least trying to ride sheep. Kids of all sizes, both genders, wearing anything and everything with helmets sat or clung to adult sized sheep. Miss W must have overheard the two of us talking about it and somewhere in the discussion asked if she could participate in it. Either I did not hear her question or she misunderstood my answer, because there was no way either of us would have let her ride a sheep. But she had the hat and believed she should and could. She didn't. When the last rider fell off the sheep, she looked at Hubby and said, I could have ridden one! She probably could have, but not on our watch.

Then they got to meet the rodeo clown, climb in the barrel, get their photo taken, and receive autographed posters.

3 rodeo events...

saddle bronc

bareback riding (although this is NOT a bareback photo)

bull riding

the clown and his 'trick' chicken

Native American dancing

G'Kids with their T-shirts

A successful evening from our point of view,
and theirs.
