The G'Kids Visit Mt. Rushmore

Hubby and I decided the G'Kids needed to spend a week with us in the Black Hills. Their parents did not mind that we would take them on this little summer vacation, without them. The camper wouldn't work (too small) so we rented a cabin at out camping resort, Hart Ranch.

We had a number of kid-friendly touristy things planned. The camping resort also has many kid friendly options. And I packed never-seen before movies...I hope never seen before. Those are for the much needed g'parent down-time each afternoon.

The weather is cooler for a typical August in the Black Hills. It also has rained more than usual. We expect the almost daily rain shower, but Monday evening was rainy, as well as Tuesday morning. About 11 we decided to take our chances and drive to Mt. Rushmore to "see the faces." It was VERY foggy on much of the drive. And on the road where we usually get a first glimpse of Mt. Rushmore before ever getting into the monument, it was so foggy, we could not see the side of the mountain. We got in line anyway, and just as we were about to pay, the fog lifted and the faces were visible. That alone was worth the trip.

no sunshine and chilly

We purposely chose to walk the nature trail so they could burn off some energy. And because there were rocks along the trail for climbing and sliding. Perfect.

steps. LOTS of steps. Good PT

I took a lot of photos, but this post is for their parents whom I am certain are missing their offspring. They will certainly understand all the rock photos.
