A Trip to the Zoo

The temperatures and the humidity have both been in the high numbers in SD the last week or so. The combination makes most outdoor activities uncomfortable, for me. But we did a trip to the local zoo when Willa and family visited us this week.

Watertown has a excellent zoo for the size of our community. Unfortunately the heat drove most of the animals either indoors or in the shade. That and their inactivity make for a shorter visit.

Here are some of the photos from Willa's visit to the zoo:

Willa loved the monkeys. They probably weren't quite as active as they might be in more reasonable temperatures, but they were active enough for her to find them among the branches and ropes and to track their movements within the cage.

A friend had told me about the new bear exhibit and how the bears sit at their concrete table to eat. They did not sit at the table when we stopped by, but we did get to watch them eat and play with their food. The one also stopped by the window.

We visited the penguins during their feeding. They weren't very hungry and didn't care to stay in the water to catch their fish. Willa enjoyed watching them for a while.

She watched grandpa feed the pygmy goat.

With a little encouragement, she also fed the hungry, greedy little fellow.

Then it was off to the duck pond.

She threw corn to the ducks.

My favorite photo of the day.

We'll do another zoo visit when Willa comes in August.
Hopefully the temperatures and humidity won't be in the unbearable range.

I'll post some more zoo pictures without Willa in them at a later date.
