Saying Goodbye

This week we said goodbye to the Americamp 5th Wheel that was our home for 3 1/2 months the summer of 2008 and our Black Hills summer camping home for the past five years.

Since we have caught geocaching fever we have talked about how great it would be to travel to different states and areas and spend days or a week or more geocaching. Although the Americamp unit was a nice summer and living home, it's weight and size were a hinderance to the type of travel we hope to do beginning next summer. Our goal this summer was to begin looking for something different. Hubby had some specifics in mind so we looked and found

A Rockwood Mini-Lite. This unit is 25 feet long and has all the essentials: bed, bathroom with shower, microwave & TV.

The Bedroom

The Living Room

Looking from the sofa through the kitchen and into the bathroom

The bedroom is a Murphy bed behind the sofa. I wasn't too sure how the arrangement might/would work, but so far (4 nights) it has worked well. If one of us wants to stay up later, the kitchen area/table is a great computer center.

The bathroom is large enough to serve as the dressing room.

The kitchen to the right is a slide out.

It is surprising how much storage the unit has. Everything has found a home. Because of the size, everything NEEDS a home. We have figured out how we can travel with 8-10 pairs of shoes! Of course outside storage is NOT the same. But by next summer we will have a truck once again, so the truck box will serve as storage for all the necessary outside equipment.

We started our camping adventures with a Rockwood pop-up camper in 1981. In fact we had two of them until 1987. And as in any of the campers/RVs we have owned, we have made and will make a few modifications to make it more useable for our needs.

Here's to many more camping adventures!

  1. WOW, that looks great and sounds like fun. Maybe we can meet on the road sometime...in addition to next June.
