The High and Lows of Rodeo

Here are more Deadwood PBR photos with commentary. The post will end with the LOWS and then the HIGH.

bull pawing the dirt, planning to charge the horse & rider

look at those chaps fly

most riders wore helmets, not this cowboy

and he's GONE....

if you want me to leave, you will have to drag me out

air time for the bull and no helmet

his helmet says Jesus

another showing his faith

I like his pink outfit
and the words

notice the position of the bull AND
the position of the cowboy

come and get me, bull fighters

the wind played with the canopies

the intense look on the face of the bull fighter

good bull riding form

another cowboy bites the dust

this bull did his job and then sat down
bull fighter had to prod him to get out of the arena

Mike Lee
notice the words at the bottom of his chaps
"Praise God"

Mike Lee's rigging

there is more than a clean long-sleeved shirt
and chaps in the duffel bags
look at those red boots!

bull riders have small butts
and wear a mouth guard (yellow in right hand)

going, going, GONE!

THE LOWS...

EMTs were on hand
On Friday night a cowboy was carried out of the arena
broken leg was really a very bad bruise

they also checked on a cowboy on Saturday night
luckily, he walked out the the pen on his own

Mike Lee was the cowboy riding the bull...

that broke his leg during the ride
the bull managed to drag itself out of the arena
we do not know the final result of the bull,
but were told a veterinarian was on hand to treat all animals
Mike Lee got a re-ride in his final round
and took third in this tour
Marco Antonio Eguchi, Brazil, won this tour

THE HIGH...

Both nights these four women were at the rodeo and sitting in the next section, front row. They did not seem to be cheering for any one cowboy. They looked at their smart phones often. The second night one of them was wearing a really cute leather fringed vest. I worked up my nerve to talk to them. I went over to ask if they had done some shopping and learned the vest had been bought at Cowboy Christmas in Las Vegas. Then I asked where they were from. California, Canada, and Australia. I asked why a rodeo in Deadwood SD? They were doing research. Really? Yes, we are romance writers and we are doing research for books on bull riders. Two of them gave me their cards. I have researched all four and they indeed are romance writers who write for the same publishing company and met at romance writers' workshops. They had been to Montana before driving to Deadwood. That visit made my night!
