Marienplatz Geocaching Adventure

Someone asked me to share our geocaching experiences in Germany. These photos are from the hour we spent Tuesday morning looking for the 4 geocaches in and around Marienplatz, the city center of Munich. We found the fifth one after lunch on maybe a 15 minute walk.

location of an earthcache

the web cam photo of the plaza around 10 AM
on the east end of the plaza

another entrance to the Ratskeller
on the east side of New Town Hall

another set of large doors to the New Town Hall plaza

road & arch through the Old Town Hall
now a museum

love those cobblestone streets in Europe...
but my feet don't!

we walked down this street to reach another geocache
a virtual cache at the Glockenspiel

and one more ornate door

and a spendy soccer store
We love you son, but not that much!

Then it was shopping time after watching the Glockenspiel show. OFD found an outdoor marketplace, similar to the Christmas markets we had visited in December.

daytime temps in the 50s on Tuesday
love the outdoor flower shops

lots of bikes all over

more little shops

a Maypole at the outdoor market

many fruit and veggie stalls
customers can not touch the food

market wasn't very crowded before noon

my shoppers at the olive stall

gentleman played the glasses
yes, glasses filled with varying amounts of water
he even sold CDs
he was very good and it was beautiful

no Mickey D's for lunch

Then it was time for lunch. OFD had researched a burger place she wanted to try. Easy to find from the market back to the plaza center.

an English menu
and a waitress who spoke excellent English

German menu

rosemary plant in a log
along with condiments
(another outdoor cafe had basil plants on each table)

tree trunks in the cafe

tree wall paper
very funky & unique

Hans im Gluck
Burger Grill Bar

draft beer for Hubby, an alcohol drink for OFD &
strawberry rhubarb lemonade for me

our burgers

and pound of french fries

Hubby chose the classic burger (no surprise!)
OFD chose the Geissbock burger
I had the Alsdann burger
OFD gave it the rating of best burger ever!
very good burgers

Then it was time for one more traditional geocache before heading back to the hotel to rest our weary bodies.

covered walkway in the ritzier section of shopping

unique ceiling decor

statie on the way to the cache

we did not see many statues
not like Paris, anyway

location of the geocache between rock blocks
luckily, not very busy
it would have been the past two weeks for Oktoberfest
popular beer hall nearby

more musicians selling CDs on the walk back to the train depot

5 geocaches in Munich and lots of interesting sights
