American Gothic

One more unexpected find during our camping and caching week in Iowa last month. On our last full day camping east of Des Moines, we took another seven county drive, collecting geocaches. Hubby did the initial planning and like the last Iowa county excursion, I did the fine tuning, selecting the caches and communities along the route. And just like the last excursion, we found a few surprises, because of geocaching. This one at Eldon IA.

I knew of the painting, but could not have told you the artist or anything about him/her or about the significance of his/her work. (Maybe I skipped class that day???)

The museum/informational center was not open (due to Covid-19) but the informational signs and the gardens were available to visitors. We were the only ones.

not the real models!

interesting how his work was perceived

butterfly weed (Asclepius tuberosa)

  1. I like the photo that shows the phrase '@Coleen Ehresmann Photos' right below the window. I didn't know you were that famous!
