Butcher Jones

Earlier this month six of us from the resort's geocaching group attempted finding a series of puzzle caches along the Butcher Jones Trail along Saguaro Lake. It was the perfect day for a walk/hike along the shoreline. In our days of hiking, this trail was one of the favorites of the club; not too strenuous, beautiful views, some sun and sone shade, doable for almost any age or ability.

There were lots of other people at Saguaro Lake, not surprising since it was the weekend. All the geocaches were found and signed. While the others were climbing the hillside, I played with my camera.

The beach wasn't all that busy at 10 AM. The parking lots were full, so people were somewhere.

I will say the trail was clean and there wasn't much litter along the shoreline. Having the signs as a reminder and a couple of dumpsters in the parking lot may help.

Quite a number of guys were fishing in similar water crafts.

A view of the marina on the other side of Lake Saguaro. It was our after caching destination for linner (late lunch/early dinner).

Some of the hikers on the trail; some older, some younger, a few with little kids, many with dogs.

Some of the other boats enjoying the day on Lake Saguaro.

A look at the beach at about 1:30. More people. More activity.

A couple and their dog heading back after some shoreline fishing.

These two also had been fishing from shore. I did not see a stringer or pail of fish from either group.

Butcher Jones Ranch supplies various water craft for rent.

I was curious about the many little boats I saw on the water. It is pulled from the water to drivable vehicles on two wheels.

he fishing equipment is removed from the boat. The wheels are removed. Then the boat is ready to be placed in the truck bed, on the car top, or in some cases, in the cars. It was fun to watch the process. Most of the boats were towed and in place for transport by a single person. I overheard the fishing was not that great that day.

Secured in place and ready to head home.

The "for rent" canoes/kayaks were also headed back to base.

Three of the six geocachers at Butcher Jones. A successful day for geocaching and some Vitamin D. Both Hubby and I said the Butcher Jones Trail was a lot easier 15 years ago.  At this age, I find it a bit dangerous in a couple of places. I don't need to hike it every again.

Ten of the geocaches were puzzle caches that formed a picture or geo art when it was completed. We added several other caches to our hunt that day.

Then off to the other side of Saguaro Lake to the marina. Lots of boats in dock, not many on the water.

And a yummy meal to end a great day.
