Old US Highway 60 Adventure

It was a perfect kind of day for some walking in the desert and a drive along OLD US Highway 60 when Hubby and I tackled some geocaches last week. Sunshine. Temps in the 60s. Some wind to help distribute pollen for our allergies. Oh well. It is what it is.

we were being watched

Cattle close to the gate which we needed to climb. They did not bother us as we headed for our mile walk.

rarely do we get a paved road in the desert for geocaching

Desert Sunflower

many-armed saguaro

Desert Coreopsis or Desert Marigold

some Mexican Gold Poppies, Chia (the dark spiky balls) & blue bells or lupine

There is not the abundance of wildflowers this year. Although there was more rain than average late last summer, the rains did not come in December which usually brings about spring wildflowers. We also are not seeing flowers on the cactus, specifically the hedgehogs which are often blooming this time of year.

The Montana Mountains in the background as we headed home from another geocaching adventure.

For my friend Nancy: We drove through Gonzales Pass and the only flowers we saw were some Globe Mallow. It is discouraging to know how vibrant and abundant the colors have been some years. Not this year. So few poppies along the road side. The Lupine are appearing in this area, but nothing to contrast with the purple.
