Painted Desert

As we were heading east on I40 late this afternoon, I saw the sign for the Petrified Forest National Park. Curt grabbed the map as I was driving, and we took a little side trip. This stop has been on my to do list for 6 years. The first part of the 28 mile drive was through the Painted Desert.


 We did not realize the Painted Desert was part of the 
Petrified Forest National Park.

 And we did not realize the Painted Desert was another
Badlands.

 Silly us...we thought South & North Dakota had the 
only Badlands.

We know the SD Badlands are better than the ND Badlands.

We were surprised to learn there are 5 national badland areas:
ND, SD, AZ, Bryce Canyon UT & Death Valley CA.
Now we have seen 3 of the 5.

Tomorrow night...Petrified Forest

    Magnificent scenery Coleen. Super you were able to take a side trip. That's what it is all about. We had another 12 hour drive, but only have 5 hours tomorrow. We are in Hammond Indiana tonight. Safe travels.
