My Views of & from the Eiffel Tower

Hubby and OFD had a common goal during our Paris visit: go to the top of the Eiffel Tower. Neither OFD or I are overly fond of heights, but this really was an opportunity not to be passed. Hubby got in line for security check and tickets at 1:00. We got down from the tower at 4:00. We spent 2 hours standing in line to get the tickets and then to ride to the top. Worth every minute and every Euro!

Designed and built by Gustave Eiffel and his engineering company for the 1889 World's Fair, the structure is the same height as an 81 story building. It was built to commemorate the centennial of the French Revolution.

There are thousands of photos of the Eiffel Tower. I'm choosing to share the lines, angles and curves I saw while waiting to ride (and climb) to the top and the views from the top level.

Construction started the end of January 1887 and was completed enough for officials to view and ride  the end of March 1889. The wrought iron tower was intended to be dismantled in 1909. Mr. Eiffel had a private apartment at the top of the tower. One of his visitors was Thomas Edison. Buffalo Bill Cody and his Wild West show performed at the Eiffel Tower.  The French cut the lift cables when the Germans occupied Paris in 1940. It was declared a historical monument in 1964. It is the most visited paid monument in the world. We added 3 to that 6.91 million count.
