Zoo at Port of Cartagena

Foot traffic from and to the cruise ships must pass through a zoo. Unusual, but what a delightful way to end a day in Cartagena!

We hopped off our Hop on-Hop off double decker bus and entered the gate. I was not certain what animals might be in the zoo, but I knew we would see macaws.

it posed so nicely for OFD

We did not see the brown-throated sloth or the iguana. I will say the zoo was clean and staff was on hand to make sure the birds, who were free to fly wherever, did not land or harm any of the visitors. Some of the photos are from Hubby and from OFD.

I hosted a geocaching event at this location, the entrance to the little zoo. The zoo was a delightful surprise. The event was attended by 5 geocachers from the cruise ship. The zoo was the location for two Adventure Labs for geocaching.

We passed these billboards as we left the port, so we knew there would be a shopping option (in the zoo) when we returned. OFD and I got a kick out of without leaving the port part of the sign. Some cruisers don't venture far from the ship, so shopping at the port is a great option.

There was a geocache behind one of the billboards.

That is where we met the third geocacher on the cruise ship. We logged 12 geocaches in Cartagena Colombia. Hubby and I have now geocached on 4 continents and in 15 countries.

Our Panama cruise in December 2018 was to start in Cartagena after leaving Miami, but due to some mechanical issues with the ship, Cartagena was dropped from the ports of call. This cruise was a make-up for that missed port. It was well worth a second Panama Canal cruise.
