Oh A Caching We Will Go...

We left Gold Canyon Thursday morning to begin our trip home. Thankfully we do not plan to make the 1500 mile trip in 3 days as winter has arrived at home, again, and we would rather not have the ice and snow they all have dealt with the past three days.

Our plan has been to geocache along the way. I am sharing our Thursday adventure.

Devil's Canyon
I have heard of it. Now I know where it is.
i believe there is a new hike possibility in the area.
Oh, yeah! I don't have to think about that anymore!

One of our stops in Globe was this Methodist Church

The importance of the communities church bells

God's Alarm Clock

Lovely, artistic, unique stained glass windows in the 95 year old church

Train steam engine in Globe
It pulled troop trains and hauled military equipment in AZ
in WWII

Once it was reassigned to Globe & Miami, it pulled passenger
and freight trains.
It deserves a regal retirement.

Tiled wall of the Municipal Center

A friend told us about this old jail in the Salt River Canyon
We have traveled this road several times, noticed the old shack,
but never stopped.

What a cool find! There was an old metal desk,
government issue, also in the 10'x12' building.
The bars were still in the windows.
What a great stop!
(Thanks, Sherry!)

The library was our first stop in Show Low.
We found a very clever cache here.
Notice the logo on the library?

This is the story of how the town got its unusual name.

I like learning the history behind some of the
communities we travel through as we make our
migration trip.

Spring is in the air and blossoms on the trees.

The tulips were blooming, too.

More Show Low history

Another bell, but no story to go with it.

Petrified tree stumps

Intrigued by the top of this stump

Another historic jail, this one in Show Low and
made of brick

Nice to have a story to go with this one.

No one is going to enter this jail.
Everything has been removed, but the bars
on the windows and the plaque on the wall.

Not sure what adventures await us as we travel through NM.
If they are interesting, I will share!
