Rolling Along With a Tumbling Tumbleweed

The tumble weeds were  blowing across the highway all day today, from Socorro NM to Guymon OK. Very strong winds through Texas and Oklahoma, but always behind us, so a good day for gas mileage.

It was a travel day, trying to get some miles behind us. Although we did get a decent amount of cache finds, there weren't as many photos from which to choose for tonight's posting.

Our first stop this morning was at this unique rest area along I 25
in NM. Interesting 'old west fort' structure

AH HA. That explains the why it looks like a fort.

Or is this the reason it is off the ground???

Then back to US Highway 60 for some caching.

Not a lot out here

The quest for a cache took us to Abo Ruins,
a place we have visited before, in 2008.

This time I took photos at the entrance to the National
Historic site.
I think homeless people lived in this building not that long ago.

I did not check if it was still in service.
One a wee bit more modern/comfortable was just down the road.

Standing parts of the old corral.

Lots of trains running in NM

I am disturbed to see the senseless damage done to
historic marker signs. It is not like they have several hundred
on hand and can replace it with a new one!

Las Salinas of the Estancia Basin (salt lake)

Antelope watching us geocache at

Big Rock
(technically this is a boulder because...
a stone can be held in 1 hand, it takes 2 hands to hold
a rock, and a forklift is needed for a boulder...courtesy
of Clay Thompson of the AZ Republic)

Another historic marker sign
and another mention of Estancia Basin AND
not one bullet hole

Sign at a little park in Santa Rosa NM

Bronze statue in the same area

Blowing dust and dirt (top soil) north of Dalhart TX

Hard to see the base of the tower

A very tall gunslinger in Texas
Is everything bigger in TX?
