We left home Tuesday morning and encountered this about 100 miles into our journey:
We watched high line wires being lifted
Huge semi trucks pulled over and waiting
Luckily, the house movers pulled over after about 20 miles
and allowed the traffic to go around
This cache site was along our travel route
It had a Travel Bug in it
I grabbed the bug
These ruins were near one of our cache locations
Sad
Buffalo farm along one of our SD roads
We did our first Letter Box cache on this trip
Letter Box caches are stamped instead of written signatures
We do both
Can you guess which stamp belongs to each of us?
Letter Boxes use larger containers, usually
But typical hiding places on public property
Info about the Dakota Territory Capital in Yankton
1862-1883
Replica building of the Territorial Capital Building
Now a Ranger Station along the Missouri River
Riverboats used to be a common site and mode of transportation
on the Missouri River and some of its tributaries
Capt. Grant Prince Marsh, a steam boat pilot
must have deserved some recognition
Rose bush on the grounds of the old capital
Do you see the fuzz collected on this rose?
People enjoying the bike and walking path along
the Missouri River in Yankton
The old bridge across the river that lifted (one section)
to allow for the boat traffic on the river to pass
It has been replaced with a more modern sleek bridge that
would not need to lift IF a boat needed to pass through
This bird watched us look for a cache in a nearby tree
Don't know what kind it is
A final view of the old bridge and the Missouri River
Once you cross the bridge you are in Nebraska
Tomorrow's post
