kind of late on the photo op but...
we were on the 45th Parallel, halfway between
the North Pole and the Equator
more signs of winter travel
reminds us of northern AZ
FINALLY
some pine trees
a very winding road through desolate country
we stopped in Pendleton OR for a geocache at this park
loved all the reminders of moving cattle, and days gone-by
Pendleton is home to a very big rodeo
its on Hubby's bucket list
more Oregon Trail information
we really have been following the trail
this grain elevator looked like it was residing
between the Interstate on ramp and a highway
it wasn't, but it was demolished when the interstate
was built; it is no longer being used, but we did see
the need for an elevator with all the grain fields nearby
we stopped at a rest stop
two guys took two horses out of a small horse trailer
and led them to a grazing corral at the rest stop
they were very pretty/handsome young horses
they were there about 30 minutes before loaded back
in the trailer and on their way to wherever
I had just never seen a horse corral at an Interstate Rest Stop
this is what I have LOVED about traveling interstate in Oregon
we drove 60 because we were not sure if we were a truck or a car
after traveling 80 mph is SD and parts of WY, this really was nice
and there were fewer pieces of tire rubber along the road
the Columbia River
Mount Hood
a look at the Cascade Mts. across the Columbia River
Finally...Trees
we stopped to fill gas once we got to our Portland suburb
this guy was in the lane next to us
OH, and in OR, every gas station has attendants to fill your
gas and wash your windows...State Law
I have since learned the area is extra hazy due to all the forest fires burning in WA, OR and CA. We do not smell any smoke, but I think we will continue to run the AC rather than have open windows.
We have travelled those roads!!!!!!
