Visiting the Seattle Public Market Center

I shared there were two MUST SEE/MUST DO things at the Public Market Center...

the first was the Gum Wall geocache...

the second was a stop at Pike Place Fish Market

Why you ask? When Dr. Melmer was Superintendent of the Watertown School District, the administrators read a book based on the philosophy of Pike Place at the Seattle Public Market; ever since, Hubby has wanted to visit Pike Place.

"The Pike Place Fish Market, founded in 1930, is an open air fish market located in Seattle, Washington's Pike Place Market, at the corner of Pike Street and Pike Place. It is known for their tradition of fishmongers throwing fish that customers have purchased, before they are wrapped. After nearing bankruptcy in 1986, the fish market owner and employees decided to become "world famous", changing their way of doing business by introducing their flying fish, games, and customer performances. Four years later, they were featured repeatedly in the national media and television shows. The store is now a popular tourist destination in Seattle, attracting up to 10,000 daily visitors, and is often billed as world-famous."

yes, they did throw a few fish

notice the waders
he is also wearing rubber boots

more people were watching than buying

we don't buy fresh fish, so I have no idea
if the prices were low or high

We had two hours at the market, which is probably two to three blocks long, stalls on both sides of an aisle, and stores across the street also selling specialty items. The driver gave us suggestions, but it would have taken more than two hours to even visit his recommendations. In the two hours, we wanted to find the geocache (we did!), check out the fish market, and needed to have lunch and look and shop.

it was so tempting to buy fresh flowers
but there is no room in the camper for flowers
small bouquets were $5.00
huge bouquets were $10.00

Hubby bought some fresh peaches at this stall, YUM!
the clerk had us taste the grapes...YUP
tasted like cotton candy
but at $7.99 a pound...we did not buy any

this is specifically for the gals in Gourmet Club...
Remember when we went to Sioux Falls and ate at the
Asian restaurant? Years ago...
we had Lychee nuts for dessert and we got
to laughing?????
When I saw this sign I had a flash back
I didn't buy any of these either!

we decided on Lowell's for lunch with just 45 minutes
left of our allotted two hours
the lines were long
the food was good
the view was awesome

from the third floor of Lowell's

another angle from the 3rd floor windows

a selfie from the street in front of the market
5 minutes to spare before boarding the bus

  1. INTERESTING. The market looks like the one in Vancouver. Beautiful views eh! Fun to go to the market, however, being around the fish counters is a bit smelly!!
